Ilya Biker – a consummate vocal performer in the folk underground singer-songwriter tradition of the Soviet era, examplified by the late Vladimir Vysotskiy with the characteristic gravely baritone, accompanied by sparse solo guitar, commemorates the Bard in a one-off eclectic set, including pieces by the lesser known Russian singer-songwriters of the bygone era, marked by poetic double entendres. True to form and substance, Ilya’s performance is focused on deeply meaningful lyrics, vocal inflections of discontent and impactful, soulful delivery. It is additionally infused with a few original pieces in both Russian and English, while switching between a six string, fingerpicked for the intimate warm sound, and a twelve string guitar for the bellowing percussive effect.
