Jackie Messina sings selections from her cd Necessary Arrangements, a tribute to her collaboration with the late pianist and mentor Enos Payne of the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. Over five years, their work resulted in fresh arrangements of not-so-standard standards. Michael Bailey of All About Jazz called the collection, “Sleek and sophisticated” and Amy London praised “Her tasteful re-imaginings of the melodies we know and love” as “both logical and magical.” Manhattan audiences have enjoyed her inventive repertoire at clubs such as Smalls, 55 Bar, Cafe Luce, Russian Samovar, and Silvana. At Pangea, Jackie heads up a group of some of New York City’s most inspired musicians: Hyuna Park, piano; Will Galison, harmonica; Dean Johnson, bass, and Tim Horner, drums.
