As Women’s History Month comes to an end, let’s start the celebration of our Sheroes for the rest of the year. This group of renowned jazz musicians has toured the world for 10 years with appearances at the Detroit Jazz Festival, DC Jazz Festival, Jazzmandu Festival in Nepal, Femina Jazz in Madrid and many more. Their fourth album “All In Good Time” reigned the Jazz Week Radio Charts for 20 weeks and was produced by jazz master Lenny White. For this special night, New York jazz legends Jamie Baum (flute), Jennifer Vincent (bass), and Rosa Avila (drums) unite with fearless leader Monika Herzig (piano) for selections from the award-winning four albums.

The jazz supergroup SHEroes, convened by pianist-composer Monika Herzig for a fourth recording by distinguished improvising virtuosos who are all, not just incidentally, women. Monika’s deft, always supportive pianism and her warm, joyous, practical sensibility marks every tune with SHEroes on All In Good Time (Zoho, 2024). The group celebrates the 10th Anniversary in 2024 with this set of modern, sophisticated instrumentals produced by Jazz Master Lenny White and supported by a Performance Plus Grant from Chamber Music America. Guest Sheroes have included Ingrid Jensen, Linda Oh, Ada Rovatti, Jane Bunnett, Camille Thurman, Lakecia Benjamin, Leni Stern, Mayra Casales, among others and the group has appeared at major international festivals and clubs including Jazz Tales in Egypt, Women in Jazz Festival, Germany, Porgy & Bess, Vienna, Birdland, New York, and many more. Herzig is also author of “David Baker: A Legacy in Music” (IU Press, 2011), “Experiencing Chick Corea” (Rowman & Littlefield, 2017) and co-editor of “Jazz and Gender” (Routledge, 2022). Her composition Just Another Day in the Office is featured in the Berklee Press (2022) collection: New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers. SHEroes features an international cast of players based in the US and Austria. Each member is a first call, in demand artist for multiple groups and a leader/composer/arranger in her own right.

“These are all incredible accomplished musicians, working hard and often sacrificing other opportunities, family time and resources to do as they do, to perform in this group,” Herzig says of her colleagues. Monika Herzig’s SHEroes presents a model of empowerment for everyone.

“Female musicians now win competitions, lead bands large and small, and set new trends in improvised music. SHEroes is powerful!” Bob Blumenthal/ GRAMMY Winning Journalist.

“SHEROES is a brilliant project involving some of my favorite musicians, spearheaded by Monika Herzig. It is soulful and thoughtful. I especially love their take on “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough“– it captures the spirit of the group because there is no stopping great artists from making great music, as demonstrated on this stellar recording.” ~TERRI LYNE CARRINGTON
