Cabaret Room: Killer Queen Opera Presents: I Love You To Death, 7:00pm

May 25, 7:00 pm-8:30 pm

$20

Throughout time, great romances have given way to great tragedy, for how can love exist without the impending grief of loss? And how can grief exist without first the presence of love? But which, in the end, is more triumphant?

Well, Love and Grief just walked into a bar and are about to have a little contest to see which of them holds more sway. Through an evening of song, ranging from classical to contemporary music, our Masters of Ceremony will settle their score, once and for all! “I Love You to Death” tracks the soaring highs and devastating lows of love, from first blush of infatuation, through devotion and obsession, to bitter heartbreak, all the while exploring the ways in which Love and Grief are forever intertwined.

“I Love You To Death” features performances by the cast of Killer Queen’s upcoming presentation of Monteverdi’s La Favola d’Orfeo: Jay St. Flono, Alonso Jordan Lopez, Samuel Flores, and Marie Anello, as well as founders Christina Swanson and Karina Camile Parker. Proceeds from this cabaret, as well as fundraising donations, will help support our production of Orfeo on June 30th, at the Cutting Room in NYC.

Killer Queen Opera is a women-led, grassroots opera company dedicated to increasing relevance, representation, and accessibility. Based out of New York City, KQO is committed to featuring artists of diverse backgrounds and LGBTQIA+ community while cultivating artistic experiences that bring awareness to issues that NYC communities face today. They present opera in intimate and accessible spaces throughout NYC neighborhoods such as Harlem, Ocean Hill, Bushwick, Greenpoint, Flatbush, Chelsea, and more.

Determined to increase accessibility by blending mediums, KQO has created film versions of La Voix Humaine and L’incoronazione di Poppea, the latter of which was supported by the Brooklyn Arts Council. Determined to increase access to opera in unconventional venues, KQO’s films and cabarets have been shown in diverse venues including parks, theaters, bars, and coffee shops. Each project is in pursuit of KQO’s underlying mission: opera for all!
