This performance will be something very new for me.
Many people seem to have discovered new aspects of themselves after the long isolated period of the Covid lockdown and the slow return to “almost normal” we experienced. I had the time and space time to coax out original songs. Most of these were written within two months when the isolation was lifting and I knew I would be back out in the world. I’m excited to share them here with the help of the extraordinarily talented David Hofstra, Bass and James Bally, Piano.
Gifted with a velvety voice and puckish charm, Deborah Karpel shines on stage with an extraordinarily varied repertoire. Her performances are funny, bittersweet and transportive. Deborah presented performances of her one-woman show at Pangea in 2018-2019, along with performances at The Recklinghausen Fringe Festival, Laugh Out Loud Theater in Chicago and The Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center. Other recent projects were originating the role of Etty Hillesum in Robert Perretti’s The Thinking Heart Cantata and performing with Ismail Butera’s Velvet Jubilee. Deborah works all over the NYC area performing music for memory care and rehabilitation centers and teaches voice privately. She is launching a new lesson series called “Meet Your Voice” that uses vocalism to advance self discovery.
