Bridgeport Jazz Trio – John Austria (piano), Lou Bruno (bass), Charles Descarfino (drums). Featuring Nancy Allen Lundy (vocals).
Our program, “Jazz at the Movies”, is thematic, and grew out of my interest in how many songs that evolved into jazz standards first appeared in movies, not in a jazz idiom, but as part of the soundtrack. Over the years, many jazz musicians have mined the rich soundtracks from the 1930’s to present day to develop their own material. I first do a brief introduction to the movie, and we show a short clip from the film in which the song appears (using a Power Point program and TV or movie screen). We then perform the song as a jazz tune.
