TAMAR the Israeli born singer, actress and chanteuse best known for her hypnotic vocals and her spellbinding stage presence is performing Yesterday, Today and TAMAR! beginning Thursday, October 7 at Pangea, Second Avenue at East 12th Street. Tamar whose signature phrase is “Of course!,” of course, will be bringing her Ashkanasy-textured Europop sensibility to the storied boîte every Thursday in October.
Known as the “Belle of EL AL”, TAMAR is the winner of two Giorgio awards for Best Spoken Word Disco Performance By A Non-Belarusian Female Solo. You’ve also seen her many television appearances on such programmes such as Chi Sono, Musikpop, Dig a Dang & The Merv Griffin Show, not to mention her various speaking roles in Golan-Globus productions such as THE FIG BUSH. Yesterday, Today and TAMAR! is directed by Rachel Lichtman.
And now, in preparation for her soon-to-be triumphant three-weeker at The Pink Reef in Coral Gables, for the first time and maybe the last, she brings her international elan to the legendary cabaret and supper club in famous New York City, for a rare, yet tax-deductible appearance.
From early folk classics such as “Ba’Shana Ha’Ba’Ah” (“Suzanne”) to Euro-international disco hits such as “Lo Yisa Goy” to never performed gems such as “Nights in White Satin” – Tamar’s new boutique cabaret act has something for longtime fans and new converts.
Yesterday, Today and, most especially TAMAR is the conception of noted performance provocateuse Tammy Faye Starlite. The New York Times called her Marianne Faithfull-inspired performance Cabaret Marianne, also mounted at Pangea, “jaw-dropping” with critic Stephen Holden acknowledging it as “easily the most revelatory show I’ve seen…” The Times’ Charles Isherwood called Starlite’s earlier Nico: Underground piece “Remarkable – and howlingly funny.. a funny, morbidly fascinating night of theater.”
Yesterday, Today and TAMAR! is directed by Rachel Lichtman, a producer, writer, director and multimedia artist who has created a dazzling variety of groovy documentary, comedy and music programming. She is the head of Network 77, a switched-on audio/visual world of tomorrow, today.
