On February 6, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Hannah Reimann, who the New Yorker has called “an uncanny interpreter of [Joni] Mitchell’s canon,” will play the music of the beloved singer-songwriter, in honor of the publication of humorist Henry Alford’s new book, I Dream of Joni.
Humorist and journalist HENRY ALFORD has contributed to the New Yorker for more than two and a half decades. He is the author of seven books, including Big Kiss, which won a Thurber Prize for American Humor. His new book, I Dream of Joni, has been called “a stylish reconsideration of the folk-rock-jazz legend” (Kirkus Reviews) and “the greatest Joni Mitchell book ever!” (Francine Prose).
Reimann celebrates 12 years of performing the music of Joni Mitchell in 2025 and is also a Steinway Educational Partner; half-Korean; a pioneer in the manufacture of “stretto” pianos customized for players with small hands. The show features Reimann as lead vocalist, lead pianist and performing dulcimer with guest instrumentalists Michele Temple (Pere Ubu) on rhythm and open-tuned acoustic guitar, Micah Burgess (School of Rock, Petula Clark) on electric guitar, Scott Chasolen (The Machine, Yesterdays) on Keys, Mike Viseglia (Kinky Boots, Suzanne Vega) on bass, Jackson Bernstein on drums, plus some possible surprise guests TBA.
Reimann and company will play classic Joni Mitchell songs as well as some more obscure ones. Audience members are encouraged to buy a singed copy of the book after the show.
Expanding on Reimann’s previous shows and multiple collaborations with Temple and other artists, this unusual salute to Mitchell and her legacy will feature over a dozen classic singles from her first seven albums in their original arrangements and keys including “A Case of You,” “River,” “Cactus Tree,” and full band renderings of Joni’s work with the L.A. Express for the albums, Court and Spark and Miles of Aisles including “Help Me,” “Free Man in Paris,” Rainy Night House,” “Woodstock,” and more, and “Both Sides Now.”
This authentic homage to the incomparable Joni Mitchell has
been praised as “…note-perfect. Throughout the evening, the musicianship was extremely strong. There are few better ways to spend an evening than to hear Joni Mitchell’s music done well.” – Jonimitchell.com
