The four letter red neon sign on Fifi Chachnil’s first album cover, conceived by her friends Pierre & Gilles, sets the tone. Through the half-curtain of pearls, the fashion designer goes from the sewing workshop to the music room, taking care to put in her suitcase a little pinch of her mischievousness, her bubbles of fantasy and her sparkling view of life and its whirlwinds.
Since recording her first record in Egyptian in 1983, Fifi has become a stylist whilst retaining a magnetic attraction to stage and music, whether she features her models at a Lido fashion show or dresses up Nina Hagen, Mariah Carey or Celine Dion. Add to these copious indicators, fruitful bonds with her musician friends, at the forefront of who are Philippe Katerine and Jean-Pierre Stora.
You will understand, then, why you find her tonight behind the microphone, dropping into your ears her impertinent words and her light melodies, which seesaw between swing, cha-cha-cha, operetta, boogie-woogie and sirtaki! Under her “titillating” pen, we fall for boys and girls, who are affectionately nicknamed “My bunny”, “My chick” or “My porcelain elephant”, we parade in shorts and boots in the rain, we ride on our moped to the funfair, or dream of opera, with Paris, Brooklyn or Soho, in the background.
An anthem, a statement, a piece of evidence… in Fifi-verse, it doesn’t matter how it manifests itself as long as it reigns without limit: love!
LOVE is brought to you by Heather Litteer and Basil Twist.
