The Farewell Party ’23 Edition salutes a selection of this year’s dear departed entertainers, including Tina Turner, Jimmy Buffet, Astrud Gilberto, Burt Bacharach, and Rudolph Isley.
Multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and performer, Rachelle Garniez is a native New Yorker who is known as a certified free spirit and a master of surprise.
The annual Farewell Party is a tradition which began back in 2016, when Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen and other notable greats exited the mortal coil. The political climate at the end of that year was distressing, it was an unsettling time. In the spirit of Downtown community performance and art, Rachelle was determined to create an event with the intention of simultaneously celebrating joy and creativity, while acknowledging shared grief and mourning.
The first Farewell Party was a great success; continuing together with fellow Pisceans, bassist Derek Nievergelt and violist Karen Waltuch, fueled by the enthusiasm and support of Pangea’s Stephen Shanaghan and Arnoldo Cespedes Caballero, an institution was born. By turns moving and hilarious, irreverent and raw, the Farewell Party never fails to amaze and delight audiences of all stripes.
