Astor’s Place is an newly released album of original music composed and performed by Dimitri Landrain in a Jazz trio setting with Jim Robertson on acoustic bass and Keith Balla on drums. The album is a tribute to the music Dimitri has encountered throughout his travels, including tangos by Astor Piazzolla, sambas from Brazil, rumbas and boleros from Cuba, mixed with jazz improvisation.
“This is a very lyrical trio that features the piano expertise of Dimitri Landrain and showcases his talents as a prolific composer exposing a deep appreciation for Latin music.” – Dee Dee McNeil (Jazz Journalist, Musicalmemoirs)
“The top track for me, though, is ‘O Carnaval,’ an infectious samba tune that one can hardly believe no one had already written. That’s how good a composer Landrain is, and he and his trio put across the numbers with funky high spirits and truly extraordinary finesse.” – Jon Sobel (Publisher, Executive Editor and Culture Editor, Blogcritics) “Sophistication and charm hold equal prominence in Astor’s Place from pianist Dimitri Landrain and his trio. Full of harmonic subtleties, suggestive moods, and deep grooves, these nine original Landrain compositions shine with craft and reflect the international influences Landrain has absorbed in his travels.” – Jon Sobel (Publisher, Executive Editor and Culture Editor, Blogcritics)
